Weird acne breakout?

589>i used to have lots of people when i was younger, but i've had it under control for over 8 years now. i only have blackhead and an ocassional pimple now and then. i keep a skin care rutine for this purpose. three days ago my face filled up with pimples, they're all over my cheeks which is a very unusual are for me to get pimples since i usually get them on my forehead or chin, never on the cheeks, not even when i was younger. i have lots of them, it's scary, my cheeks are completelly covered by them. i'm getting my period this week, i usually get one pimple or two on my period week, but this has never hapenned to me. i'm 21, haven't eaten anything weird or new, i'm not allergic to anything, and i've been on birth control pills for 7 years. should i be worried? what can i do?
Reply:I'm right there with ya, I didn't start breaking out til I was 25, and after many treatments I know now it's only hormonal, sweating, dirt, chocolate, etc..is not the cause of it. Best thing to do is go on Ortho Tri Cyclen birth control, it helps alot with period breakouts. Wash with Cetaphil Antibacterial Cleanser, use Witch Hazel for your toner, and an oil free moisturizer with sunscreen..I like Neutrogena Healthy Skin Lotion. I've been struggling for the last 3 years, I've finally decided to try accutane. I've never had pimples growing up, it's aweful aint it?
Reply:I don't know what could've caused it but I would recommend an Aspirin mask. It helps acne better than anything I've ever tried and chances are, you already have the ingredients in your home. Minor acne...any suggestions?

588>I am a 15 year old girl and I've never had any major difficulties regarding skin care. I wash my face with Dove soap twice a day and use a warming scrub every few days.

Over the past week or so I've noticed a minor outbreak on my forehead, nose, and chin; I also have a very painful pimple in my ear (I hate those...*sigh*). I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on creams, lotions, scrubs, or household remedies to counteract and prevent this minor outbreak.

My brother had a very serious case for the past 2 years, however he is almost all cleared up now,and the last thing I want is to get a case as bad as his, so I'm trying to be proactive about it.

Thanks! I appreciate any suggestions.
Reply:Well...for me I used to have a major case, and I tried EVERYTHING in stores, yet it persisted. Then I went to a dermatologist, and in about nine weeks it was mostly gone. So tried-and-true, I would have to say you have to see a doctor. But for minor cases, I would assume store bought remedies (Clearasil, C%26amp;C) would work. If you get these, for minor cases, I would recommend SALICYLIC ACID. It is low-irritation, compared to Benzoly Peroxide which irritates almost definitely.
Reply:dude you might get what he has

try ProActive

it's AWESOME

or since you have only a little, try clean and clear

good luck
Reply:any neutrogena products. they all work so good on my skin!
Reply:try hydrogen peroxide cream on pimples.

Don't touch or pick at them and they will be soon gone.

If you notice your acne condition is getting worse go see a family doctor. it may be a genetic thing or due to poor diet.
Reply:well...it kinda depends

if u just started ur period and its not regular then you may be prone to acne

also stress doesnt help. haha

what i just started and it immediately helped is proactive...try that if it continues...

hope this helps a little!!!
Reply:try using eucerin or proactive solution twice a day take showers first though
Reply:Its good that you are washing your face everyday but using soap is probably not the best idea because it will dry out your skin and cause more acne. A great product that I use everyday is St. Ives Apricot Scrub Face Wash. It has micro beads so it deep cleans and it works great especially for minor acne.
Reply:I never used proactive or any of those things.Washed my face with an acne soap from Clinique, changed what I ate, and exercised. I had minor acne also, but now it's pretty much clear, 90%.

The Dove soap dries up the skin. Try something else that won't dry it up so much.
Reply:Gosh, well.

I'm like you, but I've gone to very mild from mild.

I use to use a lot of products, but now I use regular face wash (NO acne washes, they dry your face out terribly), Benzaclin, and moisturizer.

That's all.

I think you should ask your doctor for some type of prescription because they REALLY help.
Reply:yes. go to the local drugstore, or even any major supermarket, and pick up a tube of Benzoyl Peroxide gel or cream. the gel is better but cream works too. they have 2%, 5%, and 10% just choose one. you already said you wash your face with Dove soap twice a day. so after each washing pat dry your face gently with a towel and then wait like 5 min. until ur face is completely dry. then apply the BP stuff that you bought over all the areas that you're complaining about. rub it on gently and slowly until it's all absorbed. thats basically it. if your face gets too dry after that then put on some oil free moisterizer in the same fashion u put on the BP just less of it. if you follow this, it should take care of all your acne. and if u keep getting acne then ur not putting on enough BP. dont worry about being frugal with it, really put it on!

btw, i been to a dermatologist back when it was bad too. already been through all the weird stuff that the doc gives you. but nothing worked as well as the simple steps that i just told you.
Reply:CLINIQUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Well I can't really give you any products that work for me because none of them do. I tried all sorts of over the counter products but had no luck with any of them. If you use any of the products these people are telling you about and your acne doesn't clear up you'll probably need to see a dermatologist to get something that will actually clear up your acne.

Bad Acne-Is Microdermabrasion right for me?

586>Hello all! I am sitting here wondering if I should go run out to the store and buy one of those at home microdermabrasion tools (the white handheld device that sluffs off your skin w/a special crystal solution). Also similar to that microdermabrasion tool in the infomercial that Susan Lucci promotes (I can't think of the name of it right now). Well anyways I'm 22, I currently have BAD acme and have been to the dermatologist in the past which worked but my skin seemed to work itself back up to a bad state. Would microdermabrasion (one of these handheld tools) be beneficial for me since my skin is so bad (or even harmful)? I read somewhere that all the oil in the skin is trapped under about 7 layers of dead skin cells trying to nourish them and common sense would tell me if you get rid of those 7 layers it would take care of the oil, atleast make it that much easier to kill it. Someone please advise, or if you know of a good website. Thanks Bunches and Happy Holidays!
Reply:Be careful! I have acne-prone skin and I've found that anything abrasive, like microdermabrasion, only makes acne worse! If you want to get rid of the top layers of skin and oil that are clogging your pours, go with a gentle glycolic acid chemical peel. Those have always worked for me. Make sure you go to a good spa with an experienced aesthetician and ask her to make sure the peel is "buffered." You'll want a series of 3-4 peels to see a difference, but I promise it helps. Good luck!

Skin Acne Clear Up and ORTHO Tricyclen vs. Seasonale Birth Control Pill to help?

585>Hi,

I currently have an IUD but my skin is oily and breaking out not to mention my periods are heavier and more painful. Cramping is awful. I am wanting to get back on the pill. I know Ortho Tricyclen is hailed as helping one to clear up skin but there is a new birth control pill--Seasonale that allows one to (eventually) only have 4 periods per year as well as lighter bleeding. I am just wondering if Seasonale has helped anyone here get their skin cleared up...although its not per se indicated for it. I would love help to BOTH clear up my skin YET also only have a period once every 3 months and ideally, I wouldn't have to choose btwn the two benefits. Anyone care to share their experiences on either method but particularly SEASONALE--since its newer and so less online info about it is available from users. Thanks!
Reply:I'm on my third pack of Seasonale and I really like it. I too have oily skin and that hasn't changed. No birth control pill I've ever been on has cleared up the oil. You might break out less, but the oil will stay. My skin cleared up when I moved to Wyoming, but that might not be practical for you. If your skin is breaking out due to hormones then Seasonale should be great for you since, you'll only experience those hormones every three months. Seasonale really helped one of my girlfriends with her hormone induced migraines. Also, Seasonale is not a new type of birth control. It's a regular birth control pill. Doctors have been prescribing birth control in this exact manner for years. Seasonale is just the first company to actually market the product and put it in it's snazzy little case with all three months together. Good Luck, hope you like it.

How often do you wash your face and what do you use? You might actually be making your skin oily by washing it too often with a harsh oil stripping product.

Use an oil free product, but it doesn't necessarily have to be for oily skin. I like Purpose face wash and occasionally use their moisturizer. Aveeno Positively Radiant face wash is also really good. I also keep Basis Facial Cleansing Cloths in my purse. I stopped using Purpose when I moved to Wyoming since the air here is so dry and of the three products Purpose is the most drying. I keep it around though for when I travel.

All of these products are readily available and not very expensive. Also, I tried all of these products at my dermatologists suggestion. She has also recommended different Neutrogena products but I only use their sunscreen. I really like the oil absorbing sheets, it doesn't matter what brand you buy they all work well.
Reply:That sounds FANTASTIC! I've heard many different things about IUD's and not many of them consist of praises for the product. I am currently taking OT and it works very well for helping my ****-tastic cramps and my complection. But I do see your point! lol I would DIE to have a period 4 times a year! hahaha I don't really think there is any harm in trying the product though...thumbs up to any decision you make. But make sure your doctor is just as much involved with this decision. Every woman takes to birth control differently! Best of luck!

Freckles! acne! my skin needs help!?

584>any makeup or skin care tips?
Reply:I have freckles too and I don't think you can do much about them except always put sunblock lotion on your face. It helps. For acne - you should use acne medication and face lotions that have alpha hydroxy and/or retinol. I know you're thinking that this is for wrinkles but it works. It rejuvinates skin cells which then help clear acne and scars. I personally use neutrogena day lotion with alphahydroxy. Even my girl friends noticed the change in my skin.
Reply:freckles i think you can bleach a little with lemon juice... and as far as acne... i'm in the same boat. it sucks. if you want, you can get really sunburned, and it will take the zits away, but the sunburn hurts a lot.
Reply:grow a unibrow, then no one will notice your acne.
Reply:ok so don't use any makeup... first of all... it doesn't cover up ur pimples it enhances ur beauty.... and 2nd.... i would go to a dermotaligist.... i have a perscription pill thing and u take it for 30 days and get a free refill... its pretty expensive though... i think $80... so yea... hope it helps!!
Reply:for acne get a facial cleanser with salaclic acid and yes i did spell that wrong.
Reply:My sis is actually starting a cleanse tomorrow that some natural doctor recommended to her. I don't know if it will work, but he swears by it.

For one week eat salad 3 times a day with only tomatoes, lettuce, and limes. You can use salt and pepper, and drink lemonade with honey, but that's it. It may sound wierd, but if you are desperate, as my sis is, you'll try it. Believe me, she's tried everything.

As for freckles, I think they're cute..prolly cuz i don't have them...but my best friend does.!
Reply:ME,

Hi, I have some solutions for those problems of yours.

1) Go to Target, and buy Proactiv(usually about 12-17 bucks)

2) Look for organic/healthy/ancient healing remidies from GOOGLE

Thanks for the oppurtunity
Reply:Lemon juice will work on both acne and freckles. Just dab some on several times a day and not only will they go away but it will make your skin nice and smooth.
Reply:Acne....well, just get into a routine. It was the ONLY thing that helped me. You need a gentle cleanser and a moisturizer. Make sure that it has an SPF

Freckles...can't tell ya what to do on that one. I'm irish, therefore, I have many many many freckles. All you can do is embrace them. Don't try covering them up. About a year ago, we were at the park with our daughter and a little girl came up and asked me what was wrong with my face. I asked her what she meant. She said the spots. I got down to her level and started pointing at different ones, telling her, that each year on my birthday an angel comes and gives me kisses. With those kisses, I get the little spots. With that, she ran over to her momma and started pointing at her face and then at me. Her mom just smiled. The little girl came back over and told me that her mom said that the angels must love me a lot. She then proceeded to tell me that she wanted some of those spots!

Child innocence is beautiful and sooooo are those freckles!
Reply:Proactiv totally works on acne... the best makeup is from Arbonne. You can find them on-line or e-mail me. It's all natural and you'll be amazed as to how soft it'll make your skin. I liked the stuff so much I became a consultant....

Feline acne-anyone have success treating it at home?

583>I will make a vet appointment if I have to but am trying to avoid the extra cost right now. She is a white cat %26amp; has clusters of black spots on her chin. Fur is missing in small patches. I put peroxide on it daily. Every website that I go too just says that vet care may be needed if it does not go away. I want to know if anyone has treated this on thier own %26amp; had success.

TIA
Reply:do you use plastic bowls for food and/or water? that is common. you can call up the vets office and ask them if there is something that you can do for your cat
Reply:good that you are going to a Vet. kitty may need a stronger topical ointment and peroxide may actually aggravate the condition, but the Vet can tell you that. i do know that sometimes it is the type of food/water bowls you use that can exacerbate the problem. the worst is plastic. it harbors oil and bacteria that can bring on an outbreak in cats that are prone to acne. ceramic is the best to use and keep the bowls very very clean.
Reply:Yes. Sophie got it because back when I fed dry food, I didn't clean their bowls very often. On top of that Poppy would eat out of both bowls and she slobbers.

All I did was start washing the bowls after each use. I already knew to use ceramic or metal bowls so that was fine.

What I did for her was simply scrape it off with my nail. I might have wet it with a damp cloth, but I never even used soap that I recall.

That perhaps wasn't the recommended treatment, but I didn't know any better, it worked and it cleared up.

"Treatment of feline acne depends on the severity. If it's mild 鈥?just a few blackheads or specks of dark skin discharge 鈥?washing the area daily with dilute antiseptic soap such as chlorhexidine (non-dental brands like Hibiclens or Nolvasan) or iodine (Betadine) until it's cleared up, is just fine. (Both of these products are available at most grocery stores, and certainly at drug stores.) Since cats may not enjoy these washings, you may not get a chance to rinse, so be sure the soap is VERY dilute! Betadine in particular can be very irritating to the skin if your soapy water is too strong. A weak tea color is good for Betadine; very pale pink or blue for chlorhexidine soaps. Do NOT use "antibacterial" hand soap; it will leave too much residue. Detergent dish soap is far too strong and will damage the skin.

If the condition is more severe, your veterinarian will want to clip the chin area to help keep it clean. She may also prescribe other treatments, such as topical or systemic antibiotics, or a stronger soap such as benzoyl peroxide. Warm plain water or Epsom salt compresses can be used for draining abscesses. In some cases, sedation or anesthesia may be necessary if the area is very painful, in order to clip and clean it thoroughly. It is generally a bad idea to "squeeze" the pimples; the skin in the area bruises very easily, and this can also spread the infection."
Reply:We had the same problem with our white cat, about 2 years ago. The only thing that worked was some creme from the vet (and it wasn't Oxy or clearasil type creme, either).

It's not serious, so you can wait a few more weeks until you save enough for the vet bill.

.
Reply:My oldest cat just got over having it; it got so bad he had scabbies everywhere and the skin on his chin was red and swollen. A veterinarian-customer of my husband's advised us to dump the plastic feeding bowls and wipe his chin down once a day with your regular acne pad (like Clearasil or Oxy), but it didn't appear to be getting any better and I stopped treating it altogether. Dumped the feeding bowls and started switching them out for feedings and it took a while (3 or 4 months), but now his chin is as right as rain. Redness and swelling is gone, no more scabbies!
Reply:take ur kitty to a vet it is not what u think it is my kitty just had the same thing its ulcers in the mouth and the kitty needs med its gonna cost about 75 $ for it but it will help
Reply:I both work in a vet clinic and have a cat with acne. There is no cure for it, but there are a few things you can do. Luckily, it is a cosmetic problem and does not seem to ever bother the cat. First of all, do not use any plastic dishes. Ceramic and stainless steel are best. You can wipe the chin with human acne pads. If it gets real bad, like my cat gets sometimes where the entire chin gets raw and bloody, I have the vet give my cat a steriod shot and I sometimes put him on antibiotics. I only do this then it gets that bad. Otherwise, he would always be on meds. The acne comes and goes. Most of the time he just has a few blackheads, but on occasion he will get large pimples that erupt and bleed and lose all the hair from his chin. My vet told me it is not necessary to treat with meds unless the outbreak is bad.
